Scratching my head
In my first experience using Scratch, I found it to be rather easy and fun to use. Most of the instructions and processes were very intuitive. A few steps I needed to view the tutorials on to understand, but even then the tutorials were quick and easy to understand.
I ran into one rather major
issue towards the end when I went to go share my project. My project contained two “sprites” or
characters, yet when I went to share it, one had completely disappeared. This made it so my storyboard did not make
any sense at all. I ended up searching
online for instructions on how to fix the issue. After reading through a couple of help boards
found via Google, I was able to resolve the issue. Without setting the character in question to
hidden, for some reason it became hidden, and I had to actively “show” the
character.
Overall, I found it enjoyable, but I do wish there were more animations (or "costumes") per
sprite. I can’t complain since it is a
free program, but the limitations on the sprite poses make some of the
story-telling a bit limited.
Compared to the interactive
experiences in our textbook, Scratch was by far more user-friendly. Dragging commands to a storyboard was much
easier than trying to understand which binary code was the correct one for you
to be used in that case, or even easier than using the High-Level Language or
Python.
